Tony Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Any ideas who may have made them? The EKI and mini came together in a case, I wouldn’t have thought they both belonged to the same recipient but I like to think they did. They were an impulse buy at a small militaria fair about 10 years ago where hardly anything took my fancy, I had money burning a hole in my pocket and just wanted to buy something before I left to go home. The 2nd class cross is only marked 935 and I don’t remember where or when I bought it, it’s a very good example, not quite as good as the LV crosses in my opinion but still much better looking than many others. If anyone has an idea which manufacturer may have made them please let me know. Tony

Tony Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Hí Tony I not understand WW1 EK but very nice piece congrat Thanks! Is no one going to stick their neck out and have a stab at the maker(s)? Edited May 6, 2014 by Tony
gregM Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Hi Tony, Unfortunately both of your crosses are very generic. The first class uses the the "slant W" core which was used by several different makers and the frame does not have any of the more unique hardware ( pins, hinges catches ) that we associate with certain makers. The same holds true of the second class. A generic core used by many different makers. The only really unique feature of the entire set is the 925 stamp on the ring. That is something not often seen. Congrates. Edited May 10, 2014 by gregM
Tony Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Greg, Thanks for taking the time to reply and at least I know now that apart from the 925 stamp on the 2nd class they both average but at least in better than average condition. Tony
Jock Auld Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Greg, I may look thick here but what is a 'slant W' and what other sorts of 'W' is there? I have just looked at the last couple I posted on here and the Ws all look the same to me? Thanks Jock
gregM Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The "slant W" was the nickname given to this particular style of core because of the very noticeable slant to center of the "W".
Jock Auld Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Gregg, Thanks for that, it is noticable now you have demonstarted it for me. I shall scurry away to my cellar tomorrow and see how many are slanting! Thanks Again. Jock
