Chris Boonzaier
Hi, I just bought 1kg of French insignia, mainly because I needed the stars for the CdG... but these were also these gold stars, a bit bigger than the ones for medal ribbons... are these for some kind of rank? Chris Boonzaier
These metal numbers are seen on Kepis from WW1 for the regimental numbers... but I am not sure what the letters are for? Does anyone know?
aubagne98
Hi Chris, watch this, a CdG with those stars on ebay ... maybe these golden stars are non-homologue. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/CROIX-DE-GUERRE-1-GUERRE-5-CITATIONS-1-GUERRE-WW1-/261485665992?pt=FR_JG_Collections_Militaria_Medailles&hash=item3ce1c29ec8 Michael

Bison
We use to find these kinds of artefacts, metallic symbols and strange small insignias. Most of them were used on the traditional students caps, and represent the course, the specialty, the rank, etc.. Each High School or University used to have its own hermetic rules for that. However, one can often find some variation in the stars on the Croix de Guerre, but they are never as big as those Chris is showing. Here is an example of 'unusual' stars: Regards Bison
Chris Boonzaier
Hi, I thought they may be for the cuff rank of Generals, but I think those may be silver. I was lucky to get 50-60 Croix de Guerre Stars in the lot, the rest is just excess weight then.... ;-)
