Jock Auld Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) Guys, Couple of kantine items yesterday. They look nice now they have been through the dishwasher. Jock Edited June 14, 2014 by Jock Auld
Laurence Strong Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Interesting. Have you done any type of search into the MM's? Larry
Jock Auld Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 Larry, About 90% of what I encounter is this maker (see pic) Bauscher Weiden, they were busy bees, also all of the dug stuff from the Officers Mess Bergen that I have are this maker. They went on to do US stuff and presumably Bund stuff post war as I have a few marked for the US Army and US zone? They are faked but tend to be an easy spot in the hand. Jock
Jock Auld Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) I see a similar plate has turned up on WRF with some diggers and it has been called out? I know where I do my shopping and for me it is fine. It would be good if they could post how they arrived at their decission. Oh the dilema as it appears the diggers have been varified on WAF and sold on Butschecks? I think some of these people are starting to believe there own ratings. Edit: I should have read their thread to the end, it would appear they don't know it all after all, particularlly tom LOL! Jock Edited September 18, 2014 by Jock Auld
Jerry B Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 The missprint on the Reich plate certainly seems to attract a lot of negative comments, though some seem to like it, but it is not what I would expect to see from the period. Probably one of those that will also attract differing opinions until solid proof can be found either way.
Jock Auld Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Jerry, Not really a missprint? A poor print but not the end of the world, totally under the glaze, I have not seen any of these in mint condition, indeed the one I have has normal wear and tear from cuttlery. What would you expect to see from the period, total Germanic perfection? Every now and then it is not perfect. Tom had no idea that SS-Reich was even a normal marking which made him look a bit of a twat when Ned posted a 1938 marking after his LOL? Just saying every day is a school day. I doubt proof will be found until some one digs one up with a hand still on it (I think Kurland Digger is the man for that) or conversly someone reveals by who and when they were copied? I think the former more likely even if only a fragment that is dug. The thread then goes on to reassure all concerned what jolly good fellows they all are and how crap WAF is, really? there is very little difference in the two now. As you know Adrian plays both sides so WARF it is (just joking) LOL! Jock
Jerry B Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Jock, I find the knocking of other forums that takes place on WRF and WAF rather pathetic and unproductive and as many members are on both it all seems a bit odd. A period image of the back of one perhaps? I have to admit that my first thought would be to be wary, and as it is not something I look for these days, it probably matters little what I think, but the imperfection is not what I would expect, that said earlier period transfer decorated wares often have mistakes on them, I have some Napoleon plates with errors on them.
Jock Auld Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 I shall have to dig out some stuff and see if I can post up a study of BW markings. I have a good copy in green but it appears laser etched and as such is proud of the glaze. I should have a bit of their post war stuff too to close the loop. Jock

I thought it was wrong when I got it but it was with another item which I paid a fair price for so this was free in effect even though it was still a disapointment when I got it in the hand. The bloke that sold it thought it was right IMO, that is to say I don't think he set out to decive me in any way. The marking is small as you can see from the pen for scale and it is rough to the touch so IMO added by some sort of machine/laser. The quality though of the mark is very high and on a period piece of pot would have a lot of folk for sure? Much of the stuff produced in the same moulds and no doubt for Army contract was unmarked, I can back that up as a statement as many pieces of pot dug up around the barracks here are unmarked, that is to say although in pieces the whole bases have no markings. Just as many do though, in my experiece it is about 60/40 against any mark. These diggings are normaly due to maintanace work and everyone thinks me odd for raking through the spoil. Perhaps I am!
