    I think I found his gazette for 2nd Lieutenant in the Scottish Rifles. It looks like he was in the 1/5 Seaforth Highlanders, then became an officer. If I'm reading the MIC correctly, his War Medal and Victory medal will be named as an officer (Scottish Rifles). I just purchased his 1914-15 Star, which is named as a private in the Seaforth Highlanders. I wonder where the King's African Rifles fits into the puzzle?

    I'm obviously missing something, as I don't see any reference to the KAR.

    Look at the line above Sco Rif on the MIC, it looks like KARif.

    I don't understand the POW bit because it's POW VM and I've only ever seen P of W or POW written on a medal card. I'd be asking someone who can get to Kew to look up his service record for me and eagerly awaiting the Red Cross to release their records.
