Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Hi, Has anyone heard of shorter over the Ankle length Gamaschen made for haldschuh, as opposed to the ones that came up to just under the knee? Thanks Chris
Chip Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Chris, No, I haven't but it would make sense to cover that gap between the top of the shoe and the leather Gamaschen. Of course, the Scots/Brits and Canucks had them for their highland units that wore knee socks. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Sounds logical, apparently one of the major objectives was to stop stones and stuff getting into the top of the high shoes... Happens quite often with ankle high boots.
Hoss Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Gents with the infantry boot some soldiers pulled up and folded over the trousers, I do it at reenactments if you get rocks/stones etc in your boots and it doesnt take much its blue murder getting them off, otherwise sometimes you have to lay on your back and shake your legs in the air to get the crap out. lol!
