Bernhard H.Holst Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Hello Chris. My best shot and very tentative: Otto Hofsauer The writer must have missed classes in Schoenschreiben ( accurate handwriting ). Bernhard H. Holst
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Hi, The name Hofsauer is so rare it is almost non existent... and none listed on acestry in the bavarian records :-(
Dave Danner Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 It should be Hoßauer. For some reason, the ß is often rendered as hs. Not a Bavarian name. The only ones I find are from Berlin.
Dave Danner Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Actually, on closer inspection, I think perhaps it is Haßauer. That name does come up in the Bavarian military records, although none are named Otto.
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 I can cry.... I am guessing whoever transcribed at Ancestry screwed up the name :-(
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 Can anyone make a good educated guess on the 2nd one?
Dave Danner Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I can make a bad educated guess. It looks like B_ttner, but it's hard to tell.
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Hi Dave, Its frustrating! 2 guys issued the same Helmet and both not capable of penning their name properly for future generations!!
