Chris Boonzaier Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 A touching video with a group of WW2 Veterans... http://www.francetvinfo.fr/monde/afrique/video-ces-goumiers-marocains-qui-ont-libere-la-corse_426944.html
Bernhard H.Holst Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Hello Chris. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The one gentleman also served in Indochina as his many decorations testified. Their origin from the mountains of Morocco made them particularly able to operate on Corsica and other regions. One Tabor was destroyed in the debacle of RC 4 in Tonkin in October of 1950. Our unit never operated with any Goum because of the different modes of deployment in the field ( amphibious vs mountainous environment). But they were well known! Bernhard H. Veteran Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Hi Chris The "goumiers" were highly respected warriors with the French 1st Army in 1944-1945. I am happy to know the old boys have been properly looked after. Thanks for showing this clip. All the best Veteran Edited July 24, 2014 by Veteran
TacHel Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Outstanding video! I sent the URL to French and Moroccan friends.
aubagne98 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Hi, I wonder why one of them wears two Croix de Guerre 1939 and two CdG TOE. Michael
