Jerry B Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 a fairly recent addiiton to my collection, OR's undress cap dated 1909 and unit marked to the 2nd Bn Monmouthshire regiment. A good early example with a leather peak, not often seen for an OR to any regiment from this period I think. In good condition apart from the chinstrap and still with its original brass badge. The battalion was formed in 1907, only two years before this cap was issued to them.
Jerry B Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Nice find, Gerry! Thanks for sharing it. Thanks Peter, good to see it is appreciated by someone other than me.
15THPACAV Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 A very nice and scarce cap. Congratulations. Thanks for showing it.
Jerry B Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 A very nice and scarce cap. Congratulations. Thanks for showing it. Thanks Bob, high praise coming from you.
Jerry B Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Adding one more picture of the bn markings as part of it was missed on this very rare pre great war other ranks forage cap. I very carefully removed the badge for a photo and interestingly it has the long slider seen on badges during the early Edwardian period that were phased out about the same time as this cap was issued in 1909.
