Alpha Draconis Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Hello my respected colleagues!! I recently stumbled across one unusual medal, very thin(1mm), 37,5 cm diameter in brass(I think), but it's very worn off. There is double head eagle, and cyrillic letters, probably Imperial Russian, maybe Serbian or Bulgarian? Please help to identify this medal! Best regards Joseph
paul wood Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Definitely Russian but a commemorative jeton which cost a few kopecks at the time issued to commemorate some noteworthy figure.Paul
Alpha Draconis Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Hello Paul Once again thanks for Your help and knowledge!! It's a shame that the obverse is greatly damaged so I can't identify the women on it. I think it's a women because of the necklace witch is still visible. Best regards Joseph

Alpha Draconis Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Hello Nick So it's Bulgarian after all. Is it a commemorative medal as Paul has said? Who is the woman on the medal, if it is not a fictive woman? Best regards A.D.
JapanX Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 s it a commemorative medal as Paul has said? I doubt it. Inscription says Specially for attire/ornamentation N.Sbev, Sofia Best, Nick
paul wood Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Thanks Nick, I see now that it is a very poor quality piece based loosely on an Austro Hungarian 4 Ducats. Bulgaria (and Yugoslavia) also produced official gold 4 ducats and as you are aware there are the "Alexander II" Gypsy imitations. These coins were very popular among the Gypsy community for wedding dresses and examples from the Balkans are 99.9% of the time pierced. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. Paul
