Stuka f Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I have a small collection of tobacco pots that represent very nice figures. They are Victorian periode pottery's and made in Germany. There is one I would like in particular and that is Stanley. Not at any price! One was recently offered to me at 250€ with a small chip, I turned it down and it wasn't for the chip! They generaly sufferd damages, so that is no problem to me. The price is! cheers |<ris http://www.kodner.com/catalogue/012914/images/view.asp?id=01093-019&desc=192++-+++Early+20th+Century+German+Pottery+Figural+Henry+M.+Stanley+Covered+Tobacco+Jar.+Stanley+was+the+British+American+explorer+of+central+Africa,+famous+for+his+rescue+of+the+Scottish+missionary+and+explorer+David+Livingstone+and+for+his+discoveries+in+and+development+of+the+Congo+region.+He+was+knighted+in+1899.+Illegible+Incised+Maker%27s+Mark+to+Underside.+Inscribed+Henry+M.+Stanley+to+Base.+Minor+Chips+Otherwise+Good+Condition.+Measures+12-3/4+Inches+Tall+and+5-1/2+Inches+Wide.+Shipping+$54.00+(estimate+$150-$250)
Mervyn Mitton Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Stuka - I can see your interest in these pottery figures. Nicely made and painted - although , to my mind, a little stiff in the figuring. Stanley was commissioned by a New York paper to go and look for Livingstone - although he was never lost. I am a Fellow of the British Royal Geographical Society and the main house, next to the Albert Hall , has Livingstone's hat hung on the staircase - he was sponsored by the RGS. I hope your search is succesful. Mervyn
