Jock Auld Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) Guys, You see bundles of these for sale unused mostly, this is my first used one! Jock Edited April 12, 2015 by hucks216
hucks216 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) I only have two of these to soldiers evacuated from East Prussia in 1945. The red strip refers to the soldier being wounded whereas if he was ill it would of been green. Edited April 12, 2015 by hucks216
leigh kitchen Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I'd never considered it before, but could the red tape along the spine of this soldbuch have the same significance?Plastic type adhesive tape, which I assume wouldn't have been around during WWII?
hucks216 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I think that has been placed on it post war to keep the pages together after they came loose.
leigh kitchen Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Yep. Id've thought so. just seeing the red spined wound tag made me wonder if there was some kind of significance to the red stripe - the SB is a hospital issue single piece of folded cardcard.
hucks216 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Hospital issued Ersatz-Soldbuch come in all sorts of designs, some with a simple paper cover with no more or less than the man's name on it but that is the first time I have seen a dedicated cover like that. Looks like an interesting piece.
