Chris Boonzaier Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 This gentleman served with the 1st Garde Zu Fuss Regiment 1914-18, this being a prewar photo....I see signaller flags on his arm, do the Schwalbennester have a special significance by the guard or always Music?I was surprised to see Red Hair on the Picklehaube... I thought the 1st Guard zu Fuss had Black or White? Any help appretiated, ThansChris
Glenn J Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Chris,he is a Drummer/ Fife player of one of the Grenadier Battalions of the 1. GRzF. The Corps of Drums and Regimental Band wore the red plume. That pattern of Schwalbennester is that of a Guards' Drummer. The Regimental Band wore a different pattern.RegardsGlenn
Chris Boonzaier Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Hi Glenn, thanks for the Info!Any idea about the photos that seem to vary between Black and white Plumes?I guess he must have known the famous 2m tall Moroccan Schellenbaum carrier!
Glenn J Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Chris, the I. and II. Battalions wore white plume and white equipment, the Füsilier Battalion (and IV. Battalion when it existed) wore black.RegardsGlenn
