johnlandon1 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I apologist for the bad pictures, this is a printed device some four feet wide It appears to have been torn out of a much wider "banner"[?] I hope that it is posted in the correct forum [if not guidance would be appreciated] Any idea of what it is? age etc would be very interesting Geoff
QSAMIKE Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Good Afternoon Geoff.....I do not think that this is British by the two styles of crown.....Mike
dante Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Geoff, no idea on age, but I would look at Spain and someone with religious leanings, bishop maybe, family coat of arms??
peter monahan Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 The red and gold suggest Spain to me as well, though the stripes more typically run vertically in the arms of Aragon. The bishop's mitre could be any Catholic nation, but fairly old, as later arms used an elaborate system of tassels to identify priest, monseigneurs, bishops, cardinals and so on. Likewise, the cross and lion are very common in medieval heraldry, so hard to pin down to one place. Any information at all as to where the banner or fragment came from - recently, I mean?
