I assume this is Oskar Tile von Kalm who wrote volume 30 "Gorlice" of the "Sclachten des Weltkrieges" series, does anyone know where he served in WW1 ?

    Chris,

Ribboned awards were normally only worn this way for photos upon receiving the medal. You've seen many photos of EKII winners wearing their awards this way, but never on duty in the field. I have a photo of Carl Degelow (last winner of the Pour le Merite) upon his awarding of the Hohenzollern Haus Order and he is wearing it in this style, at his button-hole.

    Hi,

I was not sure because some awards were worn like this even after the award date, like the Prussian golden Military verdienst cross and Bavarian gold bravery medal, so I thought maybe the Hohenzollern as well.
