ixhs Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) Got this nice photo of the SMS Victoria Louise crew with a lots of medal bars on it. The person in the front middle - is it Admiral Franz Hipper? He has the russian St. Stanislaus and another order on his neck. What about that asian guy? Is that a chinese or japanese officer? The officer on the left wears the Order of the Double dragon (China) and i believe a belgian or france one. Edited March 23, 2016 by ixhs
Glenn J Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 The Kapitän zur See in the middle is not Franz Hipper but Theodor Frey. The "Chinese" officer is Prince Mahidol of Siam. The photo dates from 1912. Regards Glenn
Glenn J Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Some more names for you. The medical officer standing next to the captain is Marine-Oberstabsarzt Dr. Johannes Krause. The officer at the far right is the first officer, Korvetten-Kapitän Wilhelm Bruns. Both are wearing the commander's cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold II. The officer at the far left is the navigating officer, Kapitänleutnant Emil Heusinger von Waldegg. He wears a knight's cross of the Belgian Crown Order. Strangely, his other decoration is not listed. Regards Glenn
