Looks like there may not be many more generations who might find such artifacts before they are nothing but a reddish stain in the ground. I do not want to steal Jock's thunder but if this was found in Jock's present residence area it could well be left during the last several days of combat actions in Northern Germany just before the capitulation in early May, 1945.
