Jack Russel Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I've just acquired this old coat, I think it dates from the George II period, does anyone know if it is a military jacket or a civilian coat. Is it English or continental , The buttons have sadly been removed so I would like to try and source the correct buttons if possible . would appreciate any suggestions , thanks
peter monahan Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Not military but may be livery, ie: a servant's uniform.
Jack Russel Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Thanks for your advice on my old coat, if it is a livery uniform then it will be virtually impossible to identify and find the correct buttons.
Stuka f Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Correct. If you have no story coming with the coat; I am afraid you will never know.
peter monahan Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Sadly that's the case: without provenance it could be one of many many things and, unlike military wear, there are no regulations nor lists by which to ID such items. Edited October 6, 2016 by peter monahan
