Larissa
Hello, I’m new to the forum and I thought I could find some help here with identifying military ranks written in Austro-Hungarian Prisoners of war memorial which I need to translate. I don’t understand german language and searching in google didn’t help me. Could you help me please with understanding and translating the memorial board? Here’s the picture. https://puu.sh/rGmxA/5d6d45049d.jpg That’s what I’ve found so far: Teucher Franz K.u.k. ? D?kalapos Josef K.u.k. ? Arzt (some sort of a medical?) Jezernicky Franz, K.ung. Honv ? Amler Antoh K.ung. Honv Lt. (Leutnant?) Priem Ernst, Kgl. Preuss. Lt. Arnold Heinrich Kgl. Preuss. Fldw. Lt. (Feldwebel Leutnant?) Kohanyi Koloman K.u.k. Fhnrch. (Fähnrich) Munch Gustav Kgl. Preuss. Trooper_D
Welcome, Larissa. Here's a start for you: Franz Teucher was a Lt. Colonel (Obstlt = Oberstleutnant). Dr Joseph Kalapos was a doctor with the rank of Colonel (Ob. Arzt = Oberstarzt). In 1912 he was attached to the 60th KuK Infantry Regiment. Others here will correct or/and add to what I have stated and, perhaps, give some IDs, I am sure.
Sommerfeld
Franz Teucher was a Lt. Colonel (Obstlt = Oberstleutnant) 34. Landwehrinfanterieregiment Jaroslau Edited October 12, 2016 by Sommerfeld
Trooper_D
Sommerfeld May I ask where the first image comes from, please? I note the discrepancy (LIR 84 and LIR 34) between the two sources but I imagine that the death notice is correct (perhaps a typo in the first source). Larissa
Thank you for the replies. It’s a monument to German and Austro-Hungarian prisoners of the first world war built in 1916 and located in Khabarovsk, Russia. http://en.tracesofwar.com/article/80653/Mass-Grave-German-en-Austro-Hungarian-Prisoners-of-War.htm I wonder if it’s easy to trace the information on all of those persons using military records which would be great. For anyone who has never seen these Verlustlisten (Casualty lists) before, they can be accessed online via the links below. Each has a slightly different interface but each had its merits.
