taquito22 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Hello everyone, I acquired an old Japanese rifle and need some help identifying the marks on top....they do not appear to read as most Japanese rifles do (Type 38, Type 99, etc.) Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
JapanX Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 It reads 井澤式 - Isawa type So it was made by subcontractor Isawa Jyuko somewhere betweeen 1940 and 1945. Regards, Nick
taquito22 Posted November 14, 2016 Author Posted November 14, 2016 Thank you for the response! I am quite puzzled by this rifle, which is a Type 38, as this marking is on the top of the receiver where it should say "38 Type" and there instead are no other markings, including serial numbers, etc. It was also my understanding that the Isawa Jyuko arsenal only produced Type 99 rifles between 1940 and 1945....any thoughts on this? Thanks!
JapanX Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) Yep, you are right about type 99. Here you will find another piece with the very same mark. http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/kougun1/54886799.html The owner described it as civilian (training) type. Edited November 14, 2016 by JapanX
Dieter3 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 My guess is that Izawa re-worked this rifle at some point during WWII, not originally made by Izawa, but not sure! Very interesting!
