Douglas Jr. Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Hi, Another picture arrive for the collecton. I'm pretty sure its content is trivial, but I would like to know its translation in order to have an idea if I can decypher the soldiers name. Thanks in advance. Douglas
The Prussian Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Hello Douglas! I read "Unteroffizier Wilhelm II" There was an Unteroffizier August Wilhelm in RIR 221, who fell in summer 1916: http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/4726618
Chip Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 The one helmet cover says "R 121". I'm sure there was a Wilhelm II in almost every regiment! Chip
The Prussian Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Hello Chip! Yes, you´re right! I didn´t see the helmet cover... Well, unfortunately we don´t know, if Wilhelm is his first or second name...
Bayern Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Gentlemen . It was current into the German Army if a regiment have two Mullers ;by case to call one Muller I and the Other Muller II irrespective of their first names.
The Prussian Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Yes. Müller is only a second name. Wilhelm could be both. But normally with a I or II it's the second name. Prussian officers often said, a soldier only has one first name - his rank...
