j-sk Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Hello Gentlemen, Can anybody help me identify the four Greek medals in attachment. As I do not speak Greek, can anyone translate the legends? Thank you in advance. All the best, Jean-Sam.
BalkanCollector Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 1st - Greek Victory Medal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-Allied_Victory_Medal_(Greece) 2nd - War Cross 1917 version https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Cross_(Greece) 3rd - Cross of Valor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Valour_(Greece) 4th - ? Unfortunately I don't speak Greek either so I can't translate the text.
j-sk Posted June 11, 2018 Author Posted June 11, 2018 Thank you for your information. I hope someone out there will be able to translate those "Greek legends".
Megan Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 The Greek is basically the title of each medal Διασυμμαχικόν Μετάλλιον Νίκης = Allied Victory Medal Πολεμικός Σταυρός = War Cross (3rd Class) Αριστείον Ανδρείας = literally 'Award for Bravery', usually called the Cross of Valour.
makedon Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 The fourth one is the silver Royal Foundation medal. The Royal Foundation used to issue prizes mainly to local authorities for their contribution to the national development. They are not state decorations. The small star device on the silver cross of valor is really strange. I've never seen something like this.
j-sk Posted June 13, 2018 Author Posted June 13, 2018 Thank you Makedon for this invaluable information.
