Unknown French Medal

Greetings All,

Please see the two scans.  It is, I believe, a French medal that states "Don de Merite"  I know nothing about this.

Any thoughts?

Many years ago I saw something similar . It was inscripted Au Merite . It was a scholar award of a Catholic School

School owned by a Religious Order Of French origins
