Volovonok Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 (edited) Would you please help to ID this dagger and decipher the meaning of engraving on its handle? I gather it may have relation to RAF Third Tactical Air Force stationed in South East Asia during WWII. The knife may have been acquired / handmade locally by a RAF member while on leave at rest camp in Darjeeling, West Bengal. What "87466992. Lac. Corke" may stand for? paul wood Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Leading Aircraftman Corke. The number is his service number. The rank is non commissioned therefore more difficult to research. May find something on ancestry. Paul
peter monahan Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Yes, it looks like a local - Bengali - market/tourist piece with LAC Corke has improved by the addition of his name and so on - not hard to do, presumably, if he was in an RAF workshop and had a little spare time. Nice piece!
