MrKibby
Greetings! This is my first post. I would appreciate some information about two 1870 Fenian Raid medals that I recently inherited from my grandfather. One is small and one is large and both have the ribbons attached. It is my understanding (please correct me if I am wrong) that Hemsley's Jewelers in Montreal were the makers of the medals. I can't find much information about the owner, Richard Hemsley, online and I would like to know if he served in the military. The reason I ask is that the larger of the two medals has "Gr. R. Hemsley Montreal F. B." inscribed around the edge. Could someone check the rolls for me to see if this is the same Hemsley or perhaps a relative? As these are not family pieces (my grandfather was a collector of many things), I am interested in knowing the value of the medals and the best way to sell them. I'd also like to know if there is an actual Hemsley Jewelers connection does that increase the value? Thank you for any assistance you can give. I am in the US if that matters. Great Dane
The list in Thyen's book only lists him as "Hemsley, R." (entitled to the F.R. 1870 clasp), so not much help I'm afraid...
MrKibby
Ok. Thank you. Do you have any idea what the F.B. means after Montreal?
