Just arrived - acquired because of the Mongolian connection. Any chance of interesting research or likely just long service awards? Anybody who recognizes the Ukranian booklet?

• Documented Mongolian Red Combat Banner order nr 4597 from 1988
• Documented Soviet Red Star Order nr 3696152, 16 February 1982
• Documented Soviet Order Service to the Motherland nr 5228, 30 April 1975
• Documented Bulgarian Medal to be identified
• Booklet for some kind of Ukranian air force (?) award
• And 3 award booklets for common Soviet jubilee medals

I was thinking about buying this lot myself. What a great acquisition!  
 

The Bulgarian medal is the Medal doe Service to the People’s Army of Bulgaria.  
 

The Ukrainian award is the Badge of the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine, basically the equivalent of the Soviet “PVO”.  The Ukrainians merged their PPO with the Air Force in 2004.  Interestingly, it shows the General continued his service into the Ukrainian military up to 1995 at least.  A great crossover group!

I've also received very helpful feedback via PM and will share the key points (thanks to the person reaching out to me who wishes to remain anonymous)

1. No surprise: pics I posted above is not of the complete group. It's been cut into smaller pieces as it came on the market in the former USSR. Hopefully research will help clarify what the full picture is and fingers crossed on possibly reuniting some pieces.

2. Somebody who's seen broader versions of this group informed me that a key element of the group was a double awarding of the "Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms" medal, the first dated early 1980s and the second 1990, if memory wasn't failing this person. That duo was sold separately somewhere along the line. Apparently, this double awarding was an extremely rare phenomenon because the medal was technically not supposed to be presented multiple times. 

3. While I will be pursuing research, I was informed that both Soviet orders are likely for "military and political training" with a chance that Shevtsov's international missions would be mentioned in the Red Star citation (although those wouldn't be the "reason" for the award).

4. Finally, as mentioned by Will, the Ukrainian badge is for Anti-Aircraft Forces (which included fighter units). Seems to be official or at least MoD approved.

Shevtsov's daughter is also a general in the army... interesting career:

- from tax service to army and appointed deputy minister of defense by Medvedev

- range of awards: Honored Economist, Order of Merit, Labour Valor medal, honorary diploma of state duma, 300 years st Petersburg medal, 65 years of the kaluga region medal, return of crimea medal, order of friendship, etc.

Thanks to somebody helping me with this group I received scans of the award documents missing - somebody else must be lucky to have them in their collection. Perhaps a slim chance to reunite at some point.

Major-General of Artillery Shevtsov V. A. has occupied his present position since May 1980. Before this, for the period of a year of a year, he was Chief of Air Defense Forces of the Ural Military District, where

the units and formations under his command scored well in military and political training.

 

During his period of service in the [Odessa] district, he has proven himself a knowledgable, industrious and efficient general. He is well-versed in the aerial assault methods of probable enemies and in the combat deployment of Air Defense Forces for various types of battles. In resolving practical tasks, he is principled, full of initiative, and indefatigable.

 

The condition of military and political training of the units and formations of the Air Defense Forces under his command are [sic] rated “good” for 1980-1981 instructional years. Four brigades carried out combat gunnery drills on the State testing range with excellent scores, and a fifth brigade with good scores.

 

The state of personnel discipline within the Air Defense Forces is adequate. Internal order is per regulations. Weapons and equipment are serviceable and ready for combat use. There have not been any breaches of operational readiness.

 

He is devoted to the CPSU and the Socialist Motherland.

 

CONCLUSION: For high marks in military and political training, he deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Reviewed and approved at the Military Council of the District, 22 October 1981, protocol 15.
