Blackhorse Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 This is an unidentified gentleman from a family album. Would anyone be able to shed light on who this may be and what the awards denote? Photo circa mid 1950s. Some family members seem to recall him being a high-ranking Naval officer and that they believe his name was Wiedemann or Wiehman or something along those lines. TiA! Great Dane Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Others are much more knowledgeable when it comes to German decorations, but as far as I can make out, they are: Eisernes Kreuz 2. klasse 1914 Hindenburgkreuz (for non-combatants) Verdienstkreuz Kriegshilfsdienst 1916 Kolonial Denkmünze (with bar) Long service decoration Long service decoration Kaiser Wilhelm I. Erinnerungsmedaille 1897 Whether the above combo is naval is for others to decide, but I doubt that the recipient would count as 'high ranking'... Edited April 27, 2020 by Great Dane
ixhs Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Wiehman is not a German name - i think his name was Wiedmann or Wiedemann Imo the shown person is a Beamten guy - (official in english) - i would say a paymaster or a Verwaltungsbeamter. He began his career bevor 1897 and he was reactivated in the mid 1930s. He should be born around 1870-1875.
