turtle Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I recently acquired these two Special Constabulary Long Service Medals. The first one is named to: WILLIAM R. J. HARRIS The second one: LAWRENCE B. A. SMITH I´ve read, that researching these medals is rather difficult, because you would need to know the specific police force the recipient served with to obtain his service records.
Dave Wilkinson Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) The surnames SMITH and HARRIS are amongst the most common in the UK and this together with the lack of any accompanying documentation would render any research, I would suggest, extremely difficult if not impossible. In addition "service records" for members of the special constabulary (unlike those of the regular force) are invariably destroyed following their ceasing to hold office. Dave.
