Eric Stahlhut Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 (edited) i was going to throw on a couple of werners to accompany graf's op cross, but during my search i found this one-piece, nonmagnetic ugly duckling: on this petz & lorenz, the rub marks on the reverse of the cross actually match up with the replacement cruciform backing plate Edited January 22, 2022 by Eric Stahlhut
Eric Stahlhut Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 another ww2 US cap badge backing plate used as the replacement backing plate
Graf Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 Hi Erick, As requested -additional pictures 1 to 3 The last picture the EK is with the original lock system I assume the lock system was lost or broken and was replaced at one stage with the "new" one
Eric Stahlhut Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) yes, i recognized it. this is only the third example i've ever encountered of that type in any condition. the rarest! too bad it seems to lack the incused crown/moon/800 hallmark. thank you for the additional pictures! v.Perlet Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Haven't been to evilbay for many years - but found this EK1. Though no markings, but is has this "drilled" hole through the back plate instead of these usual weld/soldered on pins, that always make me feel uncomfortable. The 1870 EK1 is a poor fake in my opinion and it seems that 1870 iron crosses are on the rise at evilbay. Regards v.Perlet

Perlet-- nothing wrong with that clamshell hello Eric Stahlhut, yes one IMHO, of the very, very few authentic 1914 EK I's - why you want to sell it/ got so many?? Regards v.Perlet
Eric Stahlhut Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 i'mn not selling anything, i was referring to the very rare two incuse-marked crosses whose maker has yet to be determined
Graf Posted January 27, 2022 Author Posted January 27, 2022 Hi Eric, I used the two crosses picture a reference for other members as well When I list a cross that is mine usually i clarify it Thank you for allowing me to use your picture Regards Graf
