    British French PAWNTICKET Network Medal

    Recommended Posts

I've seen pictures of this medal, and so far can't find out about what it actually is. I am posting it here in the British board, but if there is a better board, feel free to move it!

Commemorating the Pawnticket network, I am wondering if this was an association medal or an unofficial or how did someone get this medal? :)

Also . . . seen it with two different ribbons - Perhaps one colour is French and one British? Or two different levels? The back is flat and has nothing on it. At least, the pictures of the ones I've seen.

Any information would be of interest, actually. I have had no success trying to  research this so far!

Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced lug; the face with the British lion and unicorn on a scrolled base supporting a globe with a map of the British Isles within a ring inscribed ‘ALLY 1939-1945 THANKS MERCIE PAWNTICKET’; the reverse plain; diameter 19.11mm (0.75 inch); on original ribbon.

We understand that Pawnticket was a French Resistance group during World War II.

    The Medal is rare.

I've seen some of the selling descriptions, but that's about it. So far in all my Resistance books I can't find anything about "Pawnticket". Also . . . who awarded this medal? Is it French? Britain? Joint? Association or unofficial, etc. How did you get one of these? Really alludes me so far! :)
