gjw Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Hey, hope you all had a good Holiday season. My question is, was Johann Zimbler the only manufacturer of repeat bars? Also, what are the thoughts on unmarked bars? Thanks so much Greg
graham Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Greg, This is an interesting site: https://www.omsa.org/attachments-an-interesting-story-of-embellishment-part-iv/ I have seen bars marked 'ALPACCA - SILBER' as well. Josef Zimbler had some of their bars marked 'JZ'. 1
gjw Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Thanks graham, missed that one. I appreciate the link and your comments. Stay well Greg
Elmar Lang Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Zimbler is the best known maker of the "Spangen für wiederholte Verleihung" especially because most of their products were marked to the reverse, but many producers made and supplied these pieces, most of them, without putting their marks on them. There exist bars in silver too and, towards the end of the hostilities, also made of various metal alloys. All the best, Enzo
gjw Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Thanks so much EL! Sure appreciate your insight. One question, is there a way to tell modern fake bars from period (1916 -1945) ones? Many thanks again! Greg

As far as I know, the "alpacca silber" is just the mark that indicates the material of the bar, the alpacca, which is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel.
