Avitas Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Hello there,Just thought I would show my Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class, serial# 140,550 in silver. I believe it is from 1944 from Rick Research's info. It has kept much of its original lustre on the enamel. Any opinions onit are welcome. Thanks,Pat
Avitas Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 The back, with some tarnish on the silver. Is it better to leave the tarnish on it?
Riley1965 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Do not clean or polish it!!! The patina (Tarnish) is the natural wear of the metal. To polish it would detract from it's appearance and value. Doc
Mossy Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Agreed! I would leave the OPW2 as it is. It's certainly a nice piece, Do you have its documents with it or is it all on its lonesome?Gotta love that soviet enamel, though. Sam.
Avitas Posted May 5, 2006 Author Posted May 5, 2006 Thanks for the replies, and if I could bother you for another question or two that would be excellent. I was wondering how to go about tracking these serial numbered Russian medals, and hopefully get a good starting point to go on.Any help in this endeavor would be welcome.Pat
