Deutschritter Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Gentlemen, i read, that Albrecht Aschoff (Fahnenjunker ??.??.1916, Thorner Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 81) was promoted to Leutnant in Autumn 1917. Reserves? He received the EK II and I, maybe some more decorations? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Dave Danner Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Aschoff, Albrecht Ludwig Wilhelm *11.4.1899 in Berlin †11.8.1972 in Bad Neuenahr 1930 Dr.jur. 30.09.1917 Leutnant, vorläufig ohne Patent * 01.10.1934 Hauptmann mit RDA vom 01.06.1934 (75) 01.02.1940 Major (86) 01.02.1942 Oberstleutnant (30) 01.06.1943 Oberst * He still didn't have a Patent as of the 1919 Dienstaltersliste, so I don't know what his final Patent may have ended up being. He commanded the II. Abteilung of Artillerie-Regiment 76 in Operation Barbarossa. He was taken prisoner in May 1943 while serving as Chef des Deutschen Wirtschaftstabes beim Oberbefehlshaber Tunisien. Known decorations: 26.10.1917 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Deutschritter Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) Thanks so much, Dave! I would add: - Sudetenland Medal (Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938) as Battery chief in the Artillerie-Regiment 3 (V. reitende Abteilung in Sagan) - Medal for the Italo-German campaign in Africa (Medaille für den italienisch-deutschen Feldzug in Afrika) - Africa Cuff Band (Ärmelband „Afrika“) - Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1971 Maybe also Italien Medal of Military Valor in Silver (?), but without confirmation. Prisoner in May 1943? That was new to me, thanks! But he must have been freed or "ausgetauscht"? He was head of the Wirtschaftsstab Aschoff (Herresgruppe B) in Italy in August 1943. He supposedly commanded the Panzer-Regiment 8 (another source states Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 80), but he did command (m.d.st.F.b.) the 16. Panzer-Division between Dietrich von Müller and Kurt Treuhaupt. He was supposedly relieved of his command due to the "charge of defeatism" but stayed with the division. His Bundestag-Biographie shows him as a Russian POW until Autumn 1955. If you could confirm any of this, that would be phantastic. Here is what I have for Oberst Kurt Treuhaupt (1898-1978), maybe you can add something/anything (maybe Panzerkampfabzeichen?): Iron Cross (1914), 2nd and 1st Class Prussian Observer's Badge 1914 (Abzeichen für Beobachtungsoffiziere aus Flugzeugen); FA A 235 Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen 1918) in Black and Mattweiß (Silver) Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer Wehrmacht Long Service Award (Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung), 4th Class Clasp to the Iron Cross (1939), 2nd and 1st Class ... 2nd Class on 10 June 1940 ... 1st Class on 9 November 1943 War Merit Cross, 2nd and 1st Class with Swords ... 2nd Class on 1 September 1942 ... 1st Class on 1 September 1943 German Cross in Gold on 2 August 1944 Honour Roll Clasp (Ehrenblattspange des Heeres) on 7 December 1944 as Oberst and Commander of the Panzergrenadier-Regiment 146/25. Panzer Division Once again, thanks so much! Edited March 13, 2023 by Deutschritter
