stevo4361 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Hi guys, A new arrival today, a cased (halbetui) mm "20" Zimmerman in pretty good shape I thought I would post. Has kind of a strange finish to the front side, with the black "highlights," has anyone else seen something like this? If additional pics are wanted please let me know! Thanks guys!Kind Regards,Steve[attachmentid=37876]
Richard Gordon Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 SteveNice EK1! I think the blackness has something to do with the lacquer but I am not sure 100%.My best example also has this blackening at the top.
Guest Darrell Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Nothing to worry about. I've seen some crosses with this wierd patina before. Nice 20
joe campbell Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 perhaps this has to do with date of manufacture, esing later war techniques and materials??any thoughts on this appreciated!looks like a nice one stevo.joe
DavidM Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 HelloNice Zimmerman EK. My only concern with the black discolouration would be is it damaging the cross, as in if it is some sort of reaction in the lacqeur, could it be eating into the metal ? If it isn't then fine, leave it as it is, but if is then a cleaning might be in order to save it. This is only an observation by the way, a passing thought, not a statement of fact.
stevo4361 Posted May 6, 2006 Author Posted May 6, 2006 Thanks guys, Mr. Gordon, thats the exact kind of blackness as on my cross, thanks for sharing it and for the explanation, sure makes sense to me. It sure doesn't appear to be damaging the underlying metal, just on the surface. Thanks guys, you've put my mind at ease!Kind Regards,Steve
