WW1 British War Medal Abbreviation Question

Hello,

 

Is any familiar with the abbreviation "S.R." on this British War Medal?  I found one source that said it was for "Special Reserves." but it had question mark behind it.  Can anyone confirm or correctly identify?

It could mean: S.R. Senior Reserve RN

 

Found this on a list of abbreviations used on medal index cards for World War 1.

And this as abbreviation on Canadian Military documents/medals.

 

SR	Scottish Rifles (The Cameronians), Suffolk Regiment, Senior, Supplementary (or Special) Reserve, Scottish Regiment, Strength Return

Just saw that the medal was awarded to a Pte, so would not be an RN abbreviation based on the rank, possibly ASC Remounts Specials?
