Very nice: Medal of Merit of the Organs of the Ministry of the Interior (Verdienstmedaille der Organe des Ministeriums des Innern), Class 1 and Class 2. Instituted on 15 June 1966 and awarded in 3 classes for exemplary service in the Ministry of the Interior.

Wonderful, I see a lot of these plastic cases with a clear top from eastern block countries, are they original/official, or just replacement?

Yes, they are original/official.

 

The same plastic cases, left an older version, in the middle and right the later versions with a soft inlay.

Thank you for clarifying, did the DDR ever use the wooden with faux leather cases, as many countries did, alongside the plastic for medals apart from the orders (Banner of Labour etc.), or were they never used for simpler long service awards?

Philip, there are many organizations with unbelieveable many decorations, that you can find so many different cases.

The very early cases had seldom plastic (Plaste), the late cases are nearly all in plastic.

 

As examples an early NVA medal for faithful service from 1959 (wooden) and an early MdI medal of merit (cardboard > Pappe).
