    Hi Megan & Marcon1,

The references that I have for the following awards, as follows:. This is from the Transkei Police awards in the "First Series" (1975 - 1986) correct dates

    1. Transkeian Police Cross for Bravery (CT)

Warrant by the Cabinet of the Transkei in terms of Section 23(2) of the Transkeian Police Act 1966, (Act No. 5 of 1966, published under Government Notice No. 47 of 16 May 1975.

    2. Transkeian Police Medals for Faithful Service (Silver) for 30 years and (Bronze) for 18 years

As for all other awards manufactured for the "Second Series" (1987 - 1994), no records could be found, except for the Art Carts from the State Heraldry. Those will appear in my book

Battling with the Transkei Police Faithful Service Medal... so this should be a set of 3 medals (gold/silver/bronze) in a Type 1 (1976-1987) and Type 2 (1987-1994).

Getting a bit confused with the ribbons. Do all the Type 1 medals come on a blue ribbon with a white central stripe? Or does the 30-year one have multiple white stripes?

What changes (if any) were there in the medals themselves? Obverse seems to be the arms of the Republic of Transkei, reverse an aloe with the trilingual inscription VIR TROUE DIENS - FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE - YENKONZO ETHOBEKILEYO, with just the metal (and maybe ribbon) changing to reflect which one it is...

Thanks, Marco! Archie, do you agree?

Head of the parliamentary mace is it? Well, parliamentary maces - as ceremonial objects denoting authority - developed out of the sort of mace mediaeval warriors swong around, only the fancy 'head' end of a ceremonial mace is actually the butt of a fighting mace, where you might have your lord's arms if you fought in his service, rather than the bit you bashed your enemies with! The traditional police tipstaff has a related heritage...

    Hi Megan and Marco,

100% correct except the two light blue and white ribbons, was never approved.

The first 18 Years (bronze) and new 20 Years (silver) used the same ribbons and the same with the two 30 Years medals.

The first 30 Years was silver and new 30 years silver gilted.

    Regards

    Archie

    Hiya,

I've corrected the listing + ribbon colours.

The light blue ones were from the listing from Arthur Radburn.

Megan tearing her hairs out, I'm getting a headache - hopefully everything is correct now.

    Regards, Marcon1.

    Hi Marco,

Yes 100%. The only difference on the new 30 and 35 year Medals, is the 35 on the top suspender.

    Both are silver gilt

Do you have a link for me to Megan's website, please

    Hi Archie,

    medals.org.uk

Things might confuse you a bit as she has everything under the heading South Africa.

Would be better if she listed the homelands under their own names.

    Regards, Marco.

I have been using the Order of Precedence as laid out in Government Gazette vol. 477 Pretoria 11 March 2005 No. 27376 - Government notice No. 202 as the basis for the listings. I just like the way they tried to incorporate all the awards into a unified whole.

However, when I do the ribbon charts I may do the homelands, etc. separately... what do you two think? So then you can choose which way to access the information.

The OMSA Image Database has already been set up with pre- and post-1994 sections for South Africa, with the homelands listed separately under the pre-1994 section, and I shall stick to that when working on that (next up once East Germany is done!).

    Hi Megan,

No problem for me to work according to the Order of Precedence

I saw one mistake, but will let you know later.

A Bop Prison medal with a Bop DF medal ribbon, was placed under the wrong name.

    Regards

    Archie
