bigjarofwasps Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Rank is Kingsman (Private) King’s (Liverpool) Regiment https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Regiment
Konstantin Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 Thank you very much, bigjarofwasps! The edge lettering is clear now!!!

I would also hazard his army number puts him joining in the late 1960’s. In 1972, the King's Regiment, was stationed in West Belfast, Northern Ireland from April 25 to August 25. The regiment's tour of duty was marked by a number of casualties, including. Corporal Alan Buckley: Mortally wounded during an engagement with the PIRA Kingsman Hanley: Shot by a PIRA sniper while guarding a party of Royal Engineers Kingsman Doglay: Killed when an IRA bomb detonated in the battalion headquarters Kingsman Roy Christopher: Severely wounded in an explosion while on patrol, and died after twelve days in hospital
Konstantin Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 A very interesting piece of history! I remember news on TV in my childhood speaking on the Northern Ireland events, Falklands... I'd be happy to have this medal in my collection! Kingsman Radcliffe is now remembered! 2
bigjarofwasps Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Found this, which I thought might be of interest? This must be one of the last deployments to Ireland that the regiment did, before being amalgamated? Soldiers from the United Kingdom Stand-By Battalion, The King's Regiment (Liverpool), move out on patrol in Saxon armoured vehicles from Girdwood Barracks in Belfast in July 1998. The Battalion had been airlifted to Belfast from Blackpool at short notice a few days earlier to assist the Royal Ulster Constabulary in controlling sectarian violence at Drumcree and elsewhere during the parade season. 1

The medal belongs to the latter. Pete. 1
Konstantin Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 Gentlemen! Any information is quite valuable! Thank you very much! Is it possible to find out if J. Radcliffe was awarded any other medal of this CSM was his the only one?

If he had any other service medals the most likely one would be the UN medal for Cyprus. Pete. 1

He may also be mentioned in the Regimental magazine/journal? There might even be a photograph of him in there… Not sure if the King’s served in Cyprus or not. But if I had to guess if he does have any other medals, it’s more than likely to be this medal or an LSGC. Back in those days there was very little scope for medals, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised to learn this was his sole award.
Konstantin Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 Yes! That was a pair with UN Cyprus! Found its photo from 2017 Funny thing is that medals are not the same: lettering is not equal and there's no dots after KGSM and the following "J".. What do you thing it could be? A replacement or a fake? The link: https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/trevanion-and-dean/catalogue-id-trevan10030/lot-7b418b8e-6cd2-4fa9-91ad-a79b011524e7 It says the medal is from 1962

A little out of my area of expertise I’m afraid. Certainly looks old although the naming is definitely different. If it was a replacement it would be marked as such with an “R” on the rim. Possibly a duplicate award as apposed to anything more sinister. Doubt a King’s regiment medal would merit a fake….. The 1962 reference will be to the General Service Medal 1962 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Service_Medal_(1962
Konstantin Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 As for me both look authentic! The photo I've placed is from my friend. We did an exchange. The medal is now somewhere in the postage system. I'll examine it more precisely when in hand. I'm not an expert in British medals at all. But I believe that lettering with dots should be older.
bigjarofwasps Posted September 29 Posted September 29 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Regiment Although the regiment was stationed in Cyprus in the Sovereign Base Area in the 1990’s, I can find nothing to confirm they ever deployed there on the UN mission. 5 minutes ago, Konstantin said: As for me both look authentic! Regiment number issue dates- 24182227 to 24262662 Until September 1971 24262663 to 24302033 Until September 1972 Image is tours conducted by the King’s Regiment. It would appear that Radcliffe would have first deployed on the 01.03.75 - 15.09.76 Londonderry tour?
Konstantin Posted October 11 Author Posted October 11 Thank you very much, bigjarofwasps! Any data is precious! I got the medal. Here are better pictures I hope: The medal itself seems genuine comparing others I got in quality. Quite curious to know than at least two pieces exist. If your statement on possible admin's error is right, J. Radcliffe could take part in following missions in 1979 and/or 1984. 1
