Hello, I am sending you a sample of a group of orders and medals. I wonder who it might belong to? A diplomat, an official...? The Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion, 4th degree, was awarded in only about 1,100 cases during the entire period. Based on the medals, I think this was a recipient who received these awards after 1945. Unfortunately, the Order of Dannebrog is missing. I would be interested in your opinion. Thanks to everyone for the response.

    Interesting group.

Yes, the Dannebrog order was probably returned after the death of the recipient.

    A couple of observations:

    - Swedish recipient

    - From 1930-50 period

    - Military connection (the White Lion order with swords)?

The Danish Court- and State Calendars will list Danish (and Icelandic) awards to foreigners, and in the 1948-49 version (the 2 years were combined), the no. of Swedish recipients of the Dannebrog Knight cross who also received the Danish Pro Dania medal is about 60-70 persons.

The Dannebrog could not have been awarded at a later date, since it is the King Christian X version (i.e. from 1912-1947) as shown on the miniatures.

If you're really stuck exploring other venues, I can create a list for you of possible candidates (it will be a manual process).

Thanks for the insights. The Order of the White Lion is a civilian group (palm branches, not swords).

The Czech archive shows that only two Swedes received the Order in the 4th class after 1945. These are:

    AKERMALM, Gunnar 1949
FALCK, Johan, 1948 (but he did not receive the order)

Can you please compare these names with your database?

Unfortunately, none of those are in the list (I checked 1950 and 1951 as well).

I also checked both AKERMALM and ÅKERMALM (which is probably the correct spelling).

I have compiled a list of 61 Swedes who received the Knight Cross of Dannebrog during the reign of Christian X (1912-1947) and received the Danish Pro Dania medal. I took the list from the 1950 Court- and State Calendar to allow for some potential 'late arrivals' of the Pro Dania.

You can compare those names with other lists you may encounter.

    I will PM you.

Hmm.... hard to decipher, but here is the list of Finnish year codes (provided it was manufactured in Finland)

The "813H" in the second photo is the silver mark.

Svapr, I still think you're on the right track... only the mysteriously missing Vasa Order remains an open end...

    Have you found a suspect?

Thanks to a colleague Great Dane, the recipient was apparently Carl Anders Dymling, Swedish Director, Stockholm. Thank you very much for your help and insights so far.

Maybe JohanH can help with the mystery?

Dymling was awarded the Knight Cross of the Order of Vasa in 1937 (and is listed with that class as late as 1955).

Is there any chance he was promoted to Commander of Vasa (and thus he removed it from his miniatures, similar to the Italian Order)?

He dies in 1961, so it would have to happen somewhere in 1955-1961.

He got the commander grade on 1960-06-04.

So the group is most probably from him.

This is interesting. If you don't mind me asking, how would you know this? Is there, and do you have, a list of all people awarded the Pro Dania medal?

Unfortunately there is no official list of Pro Dania recipients.

However, the Court- and State Calendars show what Danish decorations were bestowed upon foreigners (but not their non-Danish decorations), provided they were awarded some class of the Order of Dannebrog (otherwise they would not be in the calendar).

In the above case, we know the recipient received the Knight Cross of Dannebrog, so he would also be listed with the Pro Dania medal.

The vast majority of the almost 3000 awarded Pro Dania medals did not receive a class of Dannebrog, so are not listed in the calendars.

Great, thank you. I did not know that. Will remember it next time a see groups or lots with Dannebrog and other Danish decorations.
