IVB Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Medalla "Por la Defensa Cuito-Cvanavale"In 1988 the Republic Cuba has founded a medal "Por la Defensa Cuito-Cvanavale". Cuito-Cvanavale - the settlement located in a southeast part of Angola. Here people of Angola and the Cuban soldiers have stopped armies of Pretoria. During fights the long-range heavy artillery of the republic of South Africa has let out on area Cuito-Cvanavale more than 20 000 shells of calibre of 155 millimeters, but could not suppress persistent resistance of defenders.In the center of obverse, on a background of a five-pointed star, the image of territory of Angola with a star in area of this settlement is located. On the top of a medal the convex inscription is made: A LOS HEROICOS CUITO-CVANAVALE.In the center of a reverse of a medal the arms of Republic Cuba is placed. There is an inscription, divided by two five-pointed asterisks: REPUBLICA DE CUBA CONSEJO DE ESTADO.Ribbon: red silk moire with longitudinal strips: in the middle - green and dark blue (distance between them - 4 mm), on edges - black.Medal awarded to staff of Revolutionary armed forces of the Republic Cuba, being on an active service and in a stock. Soldiers of Angola and other countries who have brought the contribution to rout of racist armies have also received this award.
