Daniel Murphy Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Nice German WW1 case. If it is naval it would have a crowned M on the base. Possibly for a long range railway gun or such. Just love trench art.Dan Murphy
GeorgeCL Posted June 27, 2006 Author Posted June 27, 2006 Thanks Dan,I forgot about those crown M's.Does anyone have a picture of the type of Gun used?ThanksGeorge
GeorgeCL Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Hi Jens,I'll remeasure in the next few weeks.Wont be going over there for a couple weeks..Thanksgeorge
JensF. Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 My first idea is the huge "15 cm Kanone". But we have to know if there are navy stamps (crowned "M") on the bottom.
GeorgeCL Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) Hi JensF,Sorry it took so long to get the correct measurementAcross the bottom allowing for the base overlap was 16mmNo other marking than already posted.Thanksgeorge Edited July 23, 2006 by GeorgeCL
JensF. Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 16m? I need the inner diameter on top and the overall lenght.
GeorgeCL Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Hi JensF16MM.X685MM7"X27"the 27 " height is approx. because of the crushing Thats about the best i can do..ThanksAgainGeorge
JensF. Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I think you mean 16 cm. I would say it is a 15 cm Kanone from Krupp or Rheinmetall:http://www.landships.freeservers.com/15cm_feldkanone_ir.htm
GeorgeCL Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks jens.Yes CM'sI must be brain dead this week..Its 110 degrees the past 3 days here.. I'm going to stay inside and drink beer now.. George
JensF. Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 110 Fahrenheit? WOW! We have 100 here in Germany which is still too much.
GeorgeCL Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 It's been terrible Still 95 at 12 midnight last nite.George
JensF. Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I think thats normal for California, but not for Germany. They call it already the "summer of the century" here. Btw. I have a lot of material about shells, fuses etc. from WW1, but nearly nothing about shell cases and their size. If someone here is reading this, who has more informations, please let me know. I only have infos about the "basic" and most common types (Feldkanone, Haubitzen, M?rser etc.). Thanks!
JensF. Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 That should be yours (full lenght without the crushing): 155 mm x 725R 15 cm Kanone 16
