Robert Noss Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Got this nice little book on a local fleamarket this early morning, not much money paid for. When at home, I discovered the dedication on the first page:Look at the stamp from this Jungstamm !That is the most unique stamp I have seen from the 3rd Reich.Kind regardsRobert
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I assume this was one of the Pre-HJ youth groups? Can it be something to do with the Totenkopf Schwimmer?
Robert Noss Posted July 15, 2006 Author Posted July 15, 2006 Hi Chris, could be an early stamp, yes. Although the dedication is from 1942, but that doesn't mean that the stamp is from that time. The skull is a pirate's symbol - the "nickname" of the youth group was "Die Freibeuter" which is filibuster in english, I guess.Kind regardsRobert
Guest Rick Research Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Yup, "freebooter." Could this be a DJ unit, kids younger than HJ age and so more leeway for such "fun" rather than the usual political stuff?Though that doesn't exactly look like "light" reading!!!!!
Robin Lumsden Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Robert. In English, a 'freebooter' is another name for a pirate. This DJ/HJ unit appear to have called themselves 'The Pirates'.......simple as that.Quite a number of DJ and HJ units used skulls on their pennants.
Ralph A Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Nice treasure, matey.... Ar-r-r-r. Shiver me timbers.Beute auf deutsch literally, "booty" or "loot."Very nice find.
Robert Noss Posted July 16, 2006 Author Posted July 16, 2006 I found more info in the book by Baldur von Schirach about the Hitleryouth:A "Stamm" was a unit in the DJ - the Deutsche Jungvolk. Comparable with the "Unterbann" in the HJ. About 800 boys.Seems that the Jungvolk was not so strictly "ruled" as the more professional Hitlerjugend. Kids between 10 to 14 years meeting under the pirate's flag, more fun.Robert
