Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I was very pleased to get the following this week, they have travelled more than many people I know.... 2 Brothers in the Sturm Abteilung of the 6th Garde Infanterie Division... Many units were designated as Sturm Units in the last year of the war, but this is the first Officially designated one with its own docs I have found so far...... First off, a very interesting one for Gefreiter Otto Thiels of the Sturm Abteilung ... signed by a Feldwebel leutnant.... for his EK2
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Then from the regiment for the same award.. this one actually very clse to the Sturm Bataillon Rohr doc... same printer...
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Then his Wound badge.. by now the unit is "1. Sturm Abteilung (Wagner)"
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 I will dig out the brothers pics this afternoon....
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Here is the brother, a sniper... His EK2 award document...
Chip Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Chris, Unbelievable stuff! I can't imagine how much this sort of outstanding paperwork must cost . You have got to have the all time premier collection when it comes to WWI German documents. Impressive! Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 The seller was very accomadating and was nice enough not to go for the jugular... so it was not cheap... but I still have my underwear and food on the table ... lets say it was very fair :-) it is a veeeery illusive unit, but I may be getting some photocopies of the regt history, which should help me a bit...

Chris Boonzaier Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 How very, very, very frustrating :-( By chance I managed to get the Regt History..... absolutely no mention of a Regt Sturm Abteilung.... and No Mention of Leutnant Wagner. Really strange .......
KIR Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Hi Chris, what is one the iron-cross 2. class writen: "Schharfschhützen ..." !?!? (must be: Scharfschützen). Can you please scan all three signatures (1:1) from the Leutnant M. Wagner signed documents!? Best regards, Jens p.s.: you checked the regimental-history!? Heinrich v. Both: "Geschichte des 6ten Garde-Infanterie-Regiments", Aus Deutschlands großer Zeit Bd. 41, Zeulenroda 1931, Sporn. Edited March 4, 2013 by KIR
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Hi, will do tonight. In the introduction to the history he says as it was not a traditional regt, noone had bothered to do a history, so he wrote one mainly from the regimental war diaries. Which means the usual little gems of info we like in a unit history are sadly lacking :-(
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Hi Chris, what is one the iron-cross 2. class writen: "Schharfschhützen ..." !?!? (must be: Scharfschützen). Hi, He does some artistic loopy H... same in the H in Heinrich... almost like ScHarfscHützen HeinricH
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Waht is alo very interesting, there are 3 different stamps for the unit!! 2 variations of the 1. Sturm Abteilung one and a Abteilung Wagner one...
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 There are a number of regiments that had their own Sturm Abteilung...
KIR Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Hi, He does some artistic loopy H... same in the H in Heinrich... almost like ScHarfscHützen HeinricH ... yes - I see the "h" in Heinrich - in my opinion not correct! I never seen this "artistic loopy" before and never heard about! Sorry - I have some doubts about the handwriting-style on the documents. Maybe you can show some higher resolution scans!? I hope I'm wrong! Best regards, Jens p.s.: and on this document the name and unit (is in my opinion) printed (see the "e": four-times the same letter). Edited March 4, 2013 by KIR
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Hi, I am not so worried about that, i have some crazy handwriting on docs, the group came to a friend directly from the family and was not expensive at all (coming from the family). The Doc in post 2 is from the same printer as the SB Rohr docs and corresponds in all respecs with the Rohr docs and other ones to this unit. The handwriting may be funny, but believe me, the docs are good. it would be a shame to dismiss then because of a clerk who felt artsy.. I must get a good scan of the signature in doc 2... if that was identified I think the mystery would be solved. Best Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 OK, Doc 2 is signed by Major Hermann Nadolny, Also signing here....
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Unfortunately the verlustliste with the wounded only go up to 1917 :-(
KIR Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Unfortunately the verlustliste with the wounded only go up to 1917 :-( ... yes - the ancestry ends 1917 and the other list (Gen-Wiki) is only at 50%! Edited March 4, 2013 by KIR
