    When looking at this medal, you always think of the English Channel or North Atlantic Operations. You would think that not many were issued after 1942ish.

    But I was surprised that these awards were issued right to the end in 1945. They also were awarded for operations down south (Adriatic, Aegean Sea etc.). In Formans Guide to Documents, I saw one award for 1945.

    Anyone else have some background to this interesting and under appreciated award?

    Launched in 1920, the 6,503 BRT "Afrika" was sunk by British destroyers 17 April 1940 off Bergen, returning with a load of iron ore from Narvik.
