I think the photo was taken from the deck of the german aircraftcarrier "Graf Zeppelin". The carrier was at this time also in the harbour of Stettin. Monsun Posted October 8, 2006 Author Share Posted October 8, 2006 U 219 arrived the 12. Uflo. at Bordeaux on 1st Jan 1944, after a over ten weeks patrol under Korvettenkapit?n Walter Burghagen. Uflo. in bordeaux! Please look at the date (25.6.1944). The Invasion in france are going on and the german navy make swimming contests? Monsun Posted October 8, 2006 Author Share Posted October 8, 2006 U 219 left Bordeaux under the command of Walter Burghagen on 23rd Aug 1944 and after more than fifteen weeks arrived at Batavia on 11th Dec 1944. U 219 was a late monsun-boat! But Mechanikerobergefreite Helber must leave the boat before and goes to the u-boat school in Pl?n.There he was awarded at the 9. Nov. 1944 with the "U-Boots-Frontspange in Bronze". Interesting is, that Helber never get the EK 1 or EK 2 befor he get the u-boat clasp! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
