    1. Hello David, It's in the firm but if no one notices you pulling up in a lorry and me loading it up with a fork lift, then of course you can borrow it. Tony
    2. I've got a couple more for you Ralph, Post 48 (the two headed bird) is the 3rd Carabiniers, Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards. Post 26 is the 19th (Queen Alexandra's Own Royal) Hussars. Post 87 is Alexandra, Princess of Wales Own Yorkshire Yeomanry- RGA is Royal Garrison Artillery. Tony
    3. Cheers Chris. I gave it a going over with a sand blaster and it only took 5 minutes. Tony
    4. Hello Ralph, I'll do these off the top of my head. 2. The West Yorkshire Regt. 3. Don't know but will have something to do with the Prince of Wales. 4. Yes, RA. It looks like the one whereby the wheel doesn't revolve. 5. Lincolnshire Regt. 6. York & Lancs. Regt. 7. This one must have something to do with the Queens Regt. (my great Grandfather served with them on and off between 1899 and 1918, 24th London Regt.). 8. Guards Machine Gun Corps. 11. Could be the Royal scots Fusiliers. Tony
    5. They'll be the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regt. Tony
    6. Post 48 might have something to do with the Lanarkshire Yeomanry. Their WWI badge was a 2 headed bird standing on a wreath with the King's crown between their heads. The Jocks need the skis because they get a bit of snow in winter Actually I think the X or skis are what's called a saltire but I don't know the reason for it. Tony
    7. Here's a pic of the underneath. Tony
    8. Hello, Can any of you help me by identifying this fuse and the shell it would have belonged to? I think it could be German or French but am not which. Thanks in advance. Tony
    9. Ralph, A great set of badges but I can't tell good from bad and a brilliant belt. What I can tell you is the following: Post 27 is the Royal Norfolk Regt. between 1937 and 1958. Post 10: I think officers badges were bronze but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. Post 13: SAS usually have wings and the "who dares wins" motto, your one is a No. 2 Commando officer's cap badge. They were a war raised unit (WWII). The Machine Gun Corp didn't have the title Royal. Tony
    10. Hello Ralph, The RF one is a French colonial infantry WWI helmet badge. Tony
    11. Thanks Glenn, a lovely case and I hope to get one in that sort of condition too one day. Tony
    12. Hello Glenn, Any chance of seeing the case? I've got a battered one and would like to see how it should look. Oops, I spoke too soon. Tony
    13. This is my favourite and the maker is LV. The ribbon is more than likely post war but it looks good. It has more than one friend so I've pictured it a few of them. Tony
    14. You do get non-magnetic black badges though. Or have I misunderstood something. Has the badge been treated chemically to give the gold effect instead of painting? Strange about the pebble detail not being there though. Tony
    15. Here?s a rather large framed picture which I had to stand a long way from when taking a photo so please excuse the quality. It is really a charcoal drawing probably taken from a photo and is showing Gustav Brandt wearing his Iron Cross 2nd class which was more than likely awarded posthumously. The bottom reads: Fell on the field of honour, Gustav Brandt died from his wounds 5.12.14 in N?rnberg. Rest in peace. He has the number 36 on his pickelhaube cover so maybe someone knows where they were serving in 1914. Tony
    16. Hello Arthur, Thanks for the tip. Tony
    17. Here you go Mike, it isn't a clear scan though. Tony
    18. Hello Andy, As I mentioned, I have my Grandad's badge but is it postwar? I thought he went back to normal work after the war but maybe he stayed with the CD. Tony
    19. While we're waiting for Andy: The badges don't usually cost much, are you talking about the enamel badges with lion and crown? I have my Grandad's badge, he was in the ARP and I would think fire watchers had a badge too, but as Marcus says, Andy should be able to tell more. Tony
    20. Hello, I've never noticed this type of tunic before (the light coloured ones). Are they military or postal service (Mike) or something else? Can anyone ID the medals being worn? China on the left and Centenar on the right maybe? The photo is dated 1917. Tony
    21. Yes, very nice Mike! Is it usual to have different square nuts holding the stars in place or is it the lighting making one of them look silver coloured? Is the base plate painted? If not is it non-magnetic? I've never seen a painted plate on officer's pickelhauben, only on ORs. Tony
    22. Hello Don, Thanks for speaking up. I heard about the unequal gaps before but to me, almost every spange I've seen has that, even the combo from Gordon. I didn't know about the non-curved wing. I think I might be better off sticking to Hindenburg crosses, post cards, books and Brodies. Cheers Tony
    23. Very nice Mike and well worth the wait! You posted this last night, you must be home from work by now so where are the pictures. Are the cockades original too? Please post some pictures of the parts inside we don't normally get to see. wub.gif Tony
    24. Hello Marcus, Substanstive is when you've been granted the rank, acting is a sort of trial period which can just be taken away from you. Do you have the original boxes for the medals? Tony
