    1. Dear All, Ive recently acquired this KVK 1st Class w/o swords mm1 (Deschler). However as can be seen from the pictures, the metal seems to have turn kind of light bluish at certain areas. Can someone please tell me how this comes to be ? Thank You. Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.

    4. Hi Swordguy, I got the PM from Rick and I thank you very much for taking the time to help me. Listed below are the products that I use, Flitz Stainless Steel & Chrome Cleaner With Degreaser - I use it on the entire sword ( as its a water based degreasing agent instead of oil ) http://www.amazon.com/Flitz-Stainless-Chro...r/dp/B000MN9LSW Peek Metal Polish Paste - I use it to clean the sword langet and all but not the blade or etch ( Recommended by Craig Gottleib ) http://www.amazon.com/Peek-Multi-Purpose-3...5475&sr=8-1 Renaissance Wax - I use after cleaning on all parts except the etched blade ( Recommended by Ron Weinand ) http://www.amazon.com/Renaissance-Wax-ren6...5568&sr=8-3 I also do not put the blade in the scabbard as I fear of runner marks and store it in a case with a humidifier. This is my 1st sword http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11198&hl= and I hope to buy another soon. Now, my main question:- I know Renaissance Wax is essential but what about the other 2 products Flitz Stainless Steel & Chrome Cleaner With Degreaser & Peek Metal Polish Paste ? Really appreciate for any help given & thanks a lot !! ibrahim.
    5. Hello everyone, As a new collector in etched blades, I would like to ask some of you some questions with regards to frosting on etched blades. Ive used the search engine on the forum as well as read several reference books but it appears to presuppose that the reader already knows about frosting. My questions are:- 1) What is the exact definition on frosting ? Is it a compound made by the etched makers ? Or is similar to a frosting that occurs to an EK , a layer formed after several years? 2) Can frosting be reproduced in etched blades ? 3) When a etched blade has its frosted parts polished and remove, can the frosting occur again ? 4) What is the best way to maintain a frosted etched blade ? Some say use Sudsy Ammonia , Semichrome, etc. 5) If I have a dark spot on a frosted etched blade, is it still possible to remove it without damaging the frosting ? 6) Can a blued etched piece have any frosting on it ? Shown below are 3 examples of etched blades which is fully frosted, has its frosting removed, and a blued etched piece. ( Pictures courtesy of Craig Gottlieb ) My sincere apologies if my questions are really dumb but I do thank you in advance for any answers given. Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.

    7. Hi Apollo, Thank you for offering me that booklet. A good friend of mine nicknamed "Monsun" has already given me that copy of Dieter's booklet. Hes also a forum member here too. As what i said, im curently doing a website about the Monsun U-Boats, you can check it out here http://www.singapore-ww2-militaria.com/ Still in process of touching up on the U-Boat bases in Singapore, Penang, DJakarta & Surabaya. Just a glimpse of things to come in my website, shown below is a picture of Seletar Air Base that was used by the British pre WW2 , then occupied by the IJN and later utilized by the Monsun Gruppe. On a personal note, i have to say that you are very fortunate to have met one of them. Wish i was as lucky as you, the stories of their journey here is just amazing. Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.
    8. Before ebay pull it out or anything here is the description & pictures. --------------------------------- German Engraved Wustrow Rememberance Bayonet VERY RARE Flakschule Flak School Flackartillerieschulle Artillery Item number: 330219706094 Seller: erixtoyz email: ErixFX@Gmail.com This piece has been in possession for 20 years and in my family's for longer than I've been around. An requisite piece of Military and World history. This, I am told, is a very rare and unusual bayonet from the German Military. Probably during the build up and preparation to World War 2. The "Flakschule"s were numbered 1,2,3, etc.. So when they were referred to they would be followed by a number. The larger the number the later the school. This bayonet does not have a number after the names and it was told to me that it most likely mean it pre-dates the numbered schools. So possible early to mid 30's. In the middle of the bayonet blade it says "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN MEINE DIENSTZEIT FLAKARTILLERIESCULE" in RERIK. Translated loosely I believe is "In Remembrance of My Time Spent in Flak Artillery School". Also Has the map of the Peninsula labeled "HALBINSEL WUSTROW" and has "RERIK, NEU GAARZ, MESCHENDORF, DER RIEDEN and BUKSPITZE". Blade is etched / engraved on one side. Has stag handles in excellent condition and well as scabbard and patent leather frog. Has hilt leather and felt in the post opening. Some minor scratches on tail end of handle and in scabbard etc. but etched blade is in superb condition. Maker MARK is "SIEGFRIED WAFFEN E. PACK & SOHNE SOLINGEN" Blade is 10 inches in length. Overall is 14.5 inches. I know that there are proper names for such things as the felt and such but I know that you know what you're looking at and for so enjoy the auction and good luck. SORRY. But there is NO BUY IT NOW OPTION. If the reserve is not met the highest bidder will have an option to discuss terms of a possible sale before I repost. your bayonet is a private souvenir of an antiaircraft artillerist (Luftwaffe), who retired from service in one of the schools for AA-training (gunners and gun laying or firing control devices). The first Flakartillerieschule was founded on Wustrow after 1933. Wustrow is a peninsula near Rostock in the Baltic Sea. Till 1945 there were some 4 or 5 AA schools, but these were given numbers (f.e."Flakartillerieschule 1" a.s.o.). So I think, your bayonet is from the thirties." --------------------------------- Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.

    23. Hi everyone, Just bought my first SS insignia after all the books & forums ive read. Its an SS sports insignia with RZM tag, but ive got 2 questions to ask the experts here. 1) What i do know (and this bothers me a bit) is the RZM tag.The A code is for for simple machine embroidered items /woven items like sports shirt insignia where else the B code machine embroidered items, like enlisted collar insignia, and cuff bands. Mine has the B code 2) Has anyone tried cleaning cloth insignia before ?? Mine has 2 small light dirt areas at the reverse , that seems to be able to be cleaned off easily (but ive never tried that before) Really appreciate for any help given. Thank You. From the book "Cloth insignia of the SS by Major John R. Angolia" Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.
    24. Hi everyone, As some of you might know , im currently researching & making a website about the Monsun U-Boats (german submarines) that went to south east asia during WW2. Well, after the war, quite a high number of them were interned by the British in the infamous Changi Prison. Please see here http://www.changimuseum.com/ I made a recent visit to the museum there , and met the current manager of the place, Mr Simon Goh. He was very interested in my research and was quite surprised to know that the prison was also used to house German inmates. Believe me, in our history textbooks , when u read about singapore during WW2, you'll read about the Japanese but absolutely nothing about the German submarine operations that were conducted here Anyway, he told me he would really appreciate it if i could provide him with more pictures of the uboat men who were interned there. I showed him 3 pictures taken from the book "Shooting the War, The Memoir and Photographs of a U-Boat Officer in World War II, by Otto Giese and James E. Wise. Jr". Please see below. If any of you have pictures similar to the ones below, please do contact me. Thank You. Shown below is the location where the above picture was taken. Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore.
