      That is true, combat awards have always had more of a following compared to Civil. However this works to our favour, it keeps the price down on items that in many cases are a lot rarer than their more expensive combat reletives The North Reinland fire cross for instance, only awarded 84 times....... Compare that to the price of a Knights Cross & how many of those were awarded? Cheers Don

      Don't take it as gospel Robert as these aren't my area, but I seem to recall that these did not come with ribbons. One of those odd awards that had a loop for a ribbon, but wasn't issued with any. Cheers Don

      I tend to avoid the painted or lacquered versions as they've never really appealed to me. However this badge James is very fine, thanks for showing it. Cheers Don

      Thanks for the clarification. I've never heard of ones with red backgrounds to start with (but other may have as this isn't one of the badges I've studdied yet), & I don't like the sound of these oval plates being used. I think caution & more investigating is needed but I suspect that they are new fakes.... Cheers Don

      Very interesting info Robert thanks. When you say narrow pin plate, do you mean the very narrow clipped type we see on modern badges, or the more oval period style plate? Can't help with this thread as I don't yet have one, hopefully others will chip in though. Cheers Don
