1. As we now have a new specific youth section, I thought I'd move your thread Jim, hopefully you'll get a reply here. Cheers Don
2. That's good to know Bob, I've often wondered if they were period. I'd love to find a snap of one in wear.... Cheers Don
3. I've never seen a picture showing one in wear...... Cheers Don
4. Excellent! Are there only those ten shown or are there more? Perhaps it could solve the mystery over other marks..... Cheers Don
5. Just thought I'd add that these are being faked as well, this ones on sale for ?7.95....... Cheers Don
6. That's very interesting Andy. Those figures can be understood when you consider the areas forfeited after the First World War, German East Africa, German Southwest Africa, Toga, the Cameras, German New Guinea, Samoa, & Kiatchau in China. There were also large communities in South America. So very large numbers of ethnic Germans were still living in these former colonies, most probably still had reletives living at home in Germany, who would join in support of the lost colonies. Cheers Don
7. That's a good question Christian. There were several makers of these badges & it may be a good contender for a thread for our database if the owners are willing to take part. I know of 6 makers: L NR or possibly FNR (in a circle) S (in an oval) Unmarked without a maker B (in a circle) F H B or an H with an F B in it The only problem is that the marks are nearly alway under the pin & hard to show in a picture. I've never yet seen one being worn in a picture, but I'm looking Cheers Don
8. Very nice Fritz. This is one of those areas that I no nothing about, but from what I've seen there are some great looking pole tops about. Thanks for sharing it with us. Cheers Don
9. Very nice Stephen, I've yet to find the button hole version. Cheers Don
10. A great shot indeed, I often find myself studying the cover of the book trying to see some of the details. It seems everytime I look, I see another badge that I'd missed before. Is that a Hitler Bewegung I see at 11 o'clock to the SS/FM? If so I'd like a butcher's at that please, & also the justice pin immediately below the Kleing?rtner. Also, let's see what's in the drawers your wife doesn't know about Cheers Don
11. Thanks Robert. They all seem fairly light (unfortunately I haven't a set of scales yet ), however the Frank & Reif is very noticeably heavier. Cheers Don
12. There are a number of makers of this lovely little badge. This one is WD (possibly Wilhelm Deumer or Walter Demmer?), anyone have any others? Cheers Don
13. I thought that we may try something a little different here, how about an enamel & membership badge manufacturers database? Many membership badges such as the NSAD & Deutschen Christen only ever had one maker. However, many of the more common badges were contracted to several manufacturers. Lets see if we can start a database of the various makers & marks from the more common badges. I do not intend to feature the Party badge as that has been done with great success on WAF, but the H.J. diamond I'm sure could be equally as interesting, along with many of the more common badges. Here's how we run it: Start a thread as normal, adding/posting any known maker variants as we find them. I will post the link for it here, so that it can be reached quickly for future reference. 14. Here are a couple of the anniversary pins I have. As you can see the pin plate is the same as used by Poellath, therefore I would guess they made them. I have never seen a marked anniversary pin. The 20 year
15. There does seem to be rivets under the plate as in these next 2 images, you can just see the "bump" caused by the plate sitting over them.
16. Next is Frank & Reif. This is the one that may be a fake. If it is, then it's an extremely good one..... My suspicians are due to the following. The badge matches in size (w+h) to the other makes but is very heavy & thicker compared to the others. I have a feeling that the eagle is possibly cast, there is a distict line on the edge in some places, between the neck & wing elbow/joint for instance, It is not made of the same dull material as the others either. This is a shiny white metal, the whole badge (including the eagle) is non magnetic. The size of the eagle is exactly the same as the other manufacturers including depth, whereas the badge itself is thicker. Notice the pin plate.....
17. Next Ferd Wagner. Notice the different pin plate
18. The Kleingärtner badges were made by several manufacturers each with their own distinctive pin plate/keeper. There are also minor differencies in the eagles heads/necks, & under high magnification the pebbling & enamel etc. The most common of these seems to have been Carl Poellath who I believe as you will see, also made the anniversary pin for this organisation. In the next few posts I will show 4 different makers, one I feel could be a fake. There is at least one more maker of these pins that I have not yet found an example of to show here. If you have one not shown, please post it. First the most common, Carl Poellath Cheers Don
19. A good point Joe, & one I had also considered. However, the later dated doc (without the Swaz) has an amendment to the 1934 rules, dated 1935, printed in the cover which the earlier doc does not....... Cheers Don
20. Indeed it is Joe, catalogue number 2702b (the red one being 2702a). Thanks for the comments Cheers Don
