    1. Thanks that far, but are we talking about the same medal? I meant OEK 222, not OEK 221 which look very similar but are very different tough. The first one (222) is said to be only about 100 times awarded whereas I have no numbers for 222, but would guess it is much more common. The "Erinnerungsmedaille 1906" was only awarded to a very few special people, e.g. Baden soldiers and officers who were in service in 1856 and still were in 1906 (!!!), but also to other special people which were chosen by the grand duke himself. The "Friedrich Luisen-Medaille" was awarded for merit in social welfare, red cross and stuff like that, and as far as I know not only in 1906 but till 1918 (have no document available, so I'm just guessing here).
    2. Thanks for the information, nice to see another picture of a bar which is now here Does not anyone have the matching rank lists, pleeeeeaaase
    3. Thanks Gentlemen for this great thread. I've yet heard some times thet the BB&Co were awarded pieces but haven't had any evidence, but no I think I can be sure it's not just a rumor. Are there prooves for the rumor(?) that officers got enamel stars and soldiers painted ones? BTW, there are two kinds of awarded enameled ones, on the one hand the BB&Co, on the other hand very strange looking ones. I hope anyone who has a picture of one of these unterstands what I'm talking about ...
    4. And the revers: pretty ugly as known for these early officer's bars. Notice: not yet an long service award, no Centenarmedaille, no clasps on the 1870 medal ...
    5. As I I've heard here was someone who likes nice ribbon bars I'd like to show you a bar from my father's collection, which unfortunally has no name - yet. As it was from the former G. Seymor collection and bought from Thies auction I think it has yet been identified ... It's a nine place ribbon bar in big old style, with Iron Cross IInd class 1870, Baden Military Carl Friedrich order, a Baden Zähringer with swords, both Prussian Red Eagle and Crown order without swords, the Prussian 1870 "Kriegsdenkmünze", the Baden "Felddienstauszeichnung" with bars for 1866 and 1870-1871, followed by a Saxon Albrechts order and a Schwarzburg Ehrenkreuz, both without swords ... I think (and hope) it is not really difficult, is it? Avers:
    6. Mille grazie Rick, than probably it IS him: The Siam upgradet to Commander, also got awarded the Saxon Commander. He does have the Z?hringer and Berthold yet in 1908, doesn't he? Montenegro might be right, although I have no idea how he may have gotten it, whereas Siam is clear: Rama V. has often been to Heidelberg, even one of his children has been born there while he was on visit! So why not to give the mayor a big elephant onto his neck?!
    7. Here's a bar a have now for some years in my little collection, but I'm still not sure what it may represent, as it has a yellow and two Baden jubilee ribbons, as for the 1902 medal. The yellow may be a Prussian Centenarmedaille or a Baden merit medal (for peace time and/or civil merit), the two Baden jubilee ribbons are matching to the 1902 "Regierungjubiläums-Medaille" both in bronce and gold, and also to the 1906 "Erinnerungsmedaille". But: the last two are extremely rare, and also the 1906 medal is often seen mounted genuine on a wrong ribbon: on the ribbon of the "Friedrich- Luisen-Medaille", most likely as the medals are looking quite similar. If(!) these bars were only worn by officers (I think I've read this here?!), it cannot be the Baden merit medal (with the yellow ribbon), and it is in my opinion impossible to wear both the gold and the bronce "Regierungsjubiläums-Medaille". The names of the other medal's recipient were not published so I think it's not possible to get a name here, but at least I'd like to hear some opinions on the strange combination, please ... PS: Does someone like my idea that it might actually be a two place bar sewn by a drunken tailor?
    8. Gentlemen, what do you think about this bar from the same seller as the China bar? Actually, he does have much good stuff, but not all is fine, is it? I do not really know why I don't like this bar, it's an Oldenburger who was in Tyrol - or where they all in the navy and far far away from the mountains?
    9. A close up of his really very pretty awards: PS: Is the long service bar from Baden or Prussia? Edit: I'm not sure, but may the second strange neck badge be a simese order of the white elephant?!
    10. Dear Gentlemen, Here I can present you a photograph of a mayor of one of Baden's bigger cities which can be recognized by his chain with the big medal - all smaller cities and villages had smaller medals on a simple chain. The photo was taken in Heidelberg in 1910 - so I think it is most likely the 1910 mayor of Heidelberg. The seller thoght he's wearing a "Brabant", but as the photo is from 1910, this is not possible. Two of the neck decorations are not recognizable, but the rest is very nice and clear: - Baden, Berthold order, - Baden, Z?hringer L?wen order, - Saxony, Albrecht order, - the Baden mayor chain and at least one neck badge more. From 1885 - 1913, Dr. Carl Wilckens was the mayor, so could please someone check this person (maybe in the DOA) for the awards and maybe also tell me the two awards that are in my opinion not recognitzable?! Thanks in advance ...
    11. Yet another guy from Friedrichshafen/Lake constance, also with W?rttemberg, Austrian and Bulgarian awards - there seem many to have been around on the lake ...
    12. My father has a German artillery sword (lion head) with an "Eisenhauer-Klinge" and a dedication on it which reads "Herbig s./l. Grasshoff 1893", so it was given from a Herbig to a Grasshoff, and at least Grasshoff, but maybe both, were artillery men. Is it possible to get to know where they were at this time? I could be Prussia, Baden or some other things ... Thanks in advance for your help ... PS: Sorry, I have no pictures of it.
    13. Gentlemen, this very "interresting" bar re-appered ... http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1 Easy to re-recognize with the holes in the China ribbon, the litte brighter spots on the Centenar ribbon, even if there is now a Red Eagle order and an EK II (please also have a look at the EK ribbon, it is not as nice fixed as the rest is, is it?) ...
    14. Yes you're right, the ribbon's made in one piece. But I think it is fine for Wilhelm II., as the same (or at least a identical) ribbon is shown in Nimmergut's B?nderkatalog (which is OOP) on the very last page. It shows only the Emperor's military awards, so it is mostly identical to the huuuge medal bar which will be sold soon by A. Thies. He had of course many (or at least, some) very different bars, but this ribbon is nearly matching to the above named bar ...
    15. I'd think he's a Protestant as his neck badge looks much more like the Prussian Johanniter Rechtsritter than any of the Malta. BTW, has the Malta order also such an cloth star?
    16. I loved to know his name, burt unfortunally, I cannot read it for sure. It was written in the album out of which it was sold, but I still have a scan of the written name. I also made a even closer close up of his order plm with OL ...
    17. My 2nd one is a Prussian General, picture taken in 1874. He's wearing: at the neck: - Preu?en, Orden pour le merite, Kreuz mit Eichenlaub; - Preu?en, Roter Adler-Orden II. Klasse mit Eichenlaub; - S?chsische Herzogt?mer, S?chsisch-Ernestinischer Hausorden, Komturkreuz mit Schwertern; - Oldenburg, Haus- und Verdienstorden, Komturkreuz mit Schwertern. on his 8 place medal bar: - Preu?en, Eisernes Kreuz 1870 II. Klasse; - Russland, St. Georgs-Orden, Kreuz IV. Klasse; - Schaumburg-Lippe, Milit?rverdienstmedialle 1870/71. and under the bar: - Preu?en, Stern zum Roten Adler-Orden II. Klasse mit Eichenlaub; - Preu?en, Eisernes Kreuz 1870 I. Klasse; - another Komturstern, may be SEHO or Oldenburg.
