    1. I wonder if the militaristic indoctrination of youth is politically correct in this day and age.... imagine getting a dokument for that nowdays...!
    2. Was recently told the Stamp of the saddle maker probably refers to it being sold by him as opposed to made by him. Best Chris
    3. Ooof! French pocket badges are like US Patches... 90% are worth nothing, 8% are worth a bit, and 2% cost surprisingly much! Nice piece though!

I wonder who something like this was awarded to ;-)
    5. Hi, There were neat little local initiative welcomings after WW1. I have not really actively looked for them but they would be an interesting collecting field. Best Chris
    6. Would be great! Thanks. I will paypal you the fees. Best Chris
    7. An American wounded on the last day of the war... Bayonets in the African Bush as Harry takes Bweho-Chini in 1917.. See whats new... http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    8. Hi, I remember ages and ages ago a WW1 Canadian collector told me about these crosses awarded loooong after the event (Guys whos death was because of war wounds) and that there were a few hundred QE2 crosses for WW1 deaths. Ditto for guys who died in the 50s of WW2 wounds... cross from the monarch who was sitting in the throne at the time of the death. Would happily pay the costs if anyone lives near the canadian archives. best Chris
    9. 283356 Pte. S.H.Goodwin.... here is his attestation....
    10. Oh,..... and they are handing out EKs..... in this case 3 EK2s and an EK1.
    11. If you go down in the woods today, You'd better go in disguise. For every bear that ever there was Will gather there for certain because Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic. Every Teddy Bear who's been good Is sure of a treat today. There's lots of marvellous things to eat And wonderful games to play. Beneath the trees where nobody sees They'll hide and seek as long as they please 'Cause that's the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
    12. A neat little document thanking a vet for his service...
    13. I remember online ages ago finding something with "14th battalion" and "Hill70"... but no more. I assume it being a QE2 cross that he died after WW2 for WW1 related wounds? Is there any canuck out there that can help me on this one? Thanks Chris
    14. I bought this a few years ago... have never gotten around to getting it researched past the enlistment form on Ancestry.com. 283356 Pte. S.H.Goodwin....
    15. WW1 wound badges are one of those things that usually land in a drawer without a second glance... a pity as they symbolize a lot. A second glance at this babe...
    16. If anyone is willing to have a try at this? The reading is difficult for me, not the translation...
    17. The picture on a photo sent home by a German soldier in July 1918. I think it must have been in the Reims-Soissons region in May-June. Front...
    18. Hi, nope, for some reason known only to someone who I have no idea of who the person is.... someone else, somewhere, is going to huge amounts of trouble to scan in all the bavarian data....
    19. I must say, this blew me away. I took the one month membership and have researched about 50 of my bavarian infantrymen. Unfortunately the other branches (Jäger etc) are not yet up. This is incredible!!!!! maybe the greatest step forward for imperial research in the online times. WOW! I will stick with the 1 month membership for now... it would be cheaper to join twice a year for a month than to keep it bubbling all year so i will collect what I need, then sign up to research. WOOOOW! LOTS of answers cleared up!!!!!!
    20. Well done! How did you manage that?
    21. If he is the classic Pionier, the Telegraph guys that I can identify in a couple of pics, one has an old 1870s carbine, and the other a lebel. I assume once the war was on, the 98 carbines were too good to waste on telegrapg troops. Guy above is a pionier in a MW Abteilung. Best Chris
    22. Hi, going through some postcard photos of pioniers, the Carbine seems to have been the rule... like this dude...
